Authorities in Jiangsu Province launched emergency measures in response to the latest cold spell and heavy snowfall that began on February 19.
The province has strived to ensure the smooth operation of transportation and minimize the agricultural losses due to natural disasters. High-speed train experienced delays or cancellations on February 21. By 5 pm on that day, the Yangtze River Delta railway authorities had mobilized over 1,500 participants for snow sweeping and ice removal.
"Jiangsu has arranged more than 600 teams with over 10,000 people and 1,000 vehicles in advance, and transported emergency supplies to toll stations, service areas, important bridges and other key venues for rapid utilization,” said Zhang Hao, head of the province’s expressway management center.
As of 6:00 pm, Jiangsu’s expressway network had deployed a total of over 20,000 participants and 3,000 vehicles for snow removal missions. Some service areas extended their business hours, while supermarkets, gas stations and other essential service providers remained open 24 hours. Furthermore, the province assisted those affected by the bad weather, offering stranded passengers with food, hot water, or spaces for rest.
Among Jiangsu’s cities, Xuzhou launched snowfall response measures on the afternoon of February 20. This included the coordinated use of special vehicles and additional manual operations to ensure elevated expressways, entrances and main roads were clear, followed by secondary streets and alleys.
