Jiangsu Province unveiled a guideline on October 12 to revitalize and develop traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
By 2025, Jiangsu aims to establish a robust TCM-based public service system, with significant strides made in integrating Chinese and Western medicine, innovating TCM practices, and training TCM professionals. The province also strives to consistently enhance the quality of Chinese medicine and advance the systems and policies that facilitate high-quality TCM development.
According to the plan, Jiangsu will elevate the quality of specialized TCM services, expand the diagnosis and treatment of diseases where TCM has a competitive edge, and establish TCM-based rehabilitation and promotion centers.
Efforts will be made to utilize TCM in addressing health and wellbeing issues, such as myopia, obesity and scoliosis. Jiangsu also plans to increase the number of beds available for older adults in the hospitals and to implement disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation programs for the elderly.
In a move to foster integration between Chinese and Western medicine, Jiangsu will establish centers for the diagnosis and treatment of serious illnesses, while research platforms and multidisciplinary teams will also be dedicated to this integration approach.
To preserve and modernize TCM, the province will work to enhance a pro-innovation environment, protect and utilize ancient TCM works, and improve the equipment and commercialization capacity.
Furthermore, Jiangsu will support the cultivation of TCM talent and promote the construction of TCM museums.
