Amid progress in the COVID-19 prevention and control, East China’s Jiangsu Province is gradually reopening and the number of vehicles exiting from expressways rose from 200,000 in early April to now more than 1.2 million.
The province’s expressways management center estimated 1.6 million vehicles on expressways per day during the upcoming 3-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday.
Jiangsu has reopened 736 expressway service areas, half of the total. The COVID-19 outbreak in Shanghai hit hard the traffic volume on the expressway linked to Nanjing, capital city of Jiangsu.
Cai Renjie, Party chief and chairman of Jiangsu Communications Holding, also said 382 small businesses operating in the expressway service areas have benefited from rent cut totaling more than 216.6 million yuan by the end of May.
