Yi Zhongyi, president of the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said the new center will facilitate basic research among universities and institutes and aim to achieve scientific breakthroughs in agricultural biodiversity fields.
Efforts will be made to build high-standard eco-friendly farms as demonstration sites, pilot integrated management of mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes and grassland, and support sustainable development of agriculture.
The research center will also help control pollution due to overuse of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, reduce carbon dioxide emissions in farming, promote green transformation of agriculture, and protect germplasm resources.
