The Baihetan-Jiangsu 800-kilovolt ultra-high-voltage (UHV) direct current power transmission project had all lines installed in the coastal province’s section by April 24.
The project stretching from Baihetan in Southwest China's Sichuan Province to East China's Jiangsu Province is an important part of the country's west-to-east power transmission program. The entire line stretches 2,080 kilometers via Chongqing, Hubei, Anhui and Jiangsu.
In the coastal province, the line spans about 220 kilometers across Nanjing, Changzhou, Wuxi and Suzhou cities. The construction of the Jiangsu part included building 488 electrical transmission towers and installing lines over highspeed railways, expressways, 500 kV transmission lines and rivers.
Construction of the project started in December 2020 and involved a total investment of 30 billion yuan. Once operational, the project will deliver more than 31.2 billion kWh of hydropower annually to Jiangsu, which is equivalent to saving 14 million tons of coal and reducing 25.42 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
