Jiangsu’s departments of transport, industry and information technology and commerce held a joint meeting on April 13, announcing measures to improve the supply of necessities for households and industries amid COVID-19 resurgences.

The province released information of highways, railways, waterways, and air routes opening for enterprises in domestic or foreign trade. Meanwhile, more efforts will be made to facilitate logistics by adding new flight routes, increase the waterway shipping capacity, and help ports maintain stable operation.

Song Guoshen from the department of transport said Jiangsu now has 62 near-sea and ocean-going shipping lines in operation, 120 container shipping lines linked to ports in Shanghai, Ningbo, Guangzhou and Xiamen for foreign trade, and 114 container shipping lines for domestic trade. Jiangsu has also supported container transport to Shanghai via the waterways and runs 60 shipping services per week between Nanjing Port and Shanghai Port.

Jiangsu’s regular international freight train services include 23 routes to more than 20 cities in 17 European countries, nearly 50 cities in five Central Asia countries and three cities in Southeast Asia.

The coastal province operates six international air cargo routes including those linking Nanjing with Amsterdam and Chicago, Wuxi with Seoul, Anchorage and Chicago, and Nantong with Tokyo. There are also 31 domestic air cargo routes to nearly 30 major cities in China, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing and Chengdu.

Facing the interrupted land transportation due to epidemic control measures, efforts should be made to encourage enterprises to use the logistics solutions through waterways, railways and air cargo routes, according to Song.

Li Feng, deputy director of the department of industry and information technology, said that the department will help leading enterprises to provide some transport needs and address supply crunches.

Jiang Xin, deputy director of the department of commerce, also pledged to keep a smooth transportation network and provide better services to foreign trade enterprises.
