Jiangsu tightens cargo transport control in COVID-19 fight

East China’s Jiangsu Province has tightened transport control to curb the spread of COVID-19 since March 27, implementing closed-loop management of truck drivers from medium and high-risk areas and also ensuring the smooth logistics operations.

Gaochun District in Nanjing, capital city of Jiangsu, has established eight checkpoints on national highways and key provincial roads as well as three checkpoints on waterways for a 24-hour inspection of all inbound vehicles and ships.

Zhang Weidong, Party chief of the district’s traffic law enforcement unit, said all drivers and passengers from key areas with infection risks are under closed-loop management. This means a rigorous check of their health QR, travel code and proof of negative results of nucleic acid tests taken within 48 hours, followed by new nucleic acid testing and a rapid antigen test, before they are handed over the sub-districts or industrial parks.

As of March 28, the province's highways had set up 303 checkpoints, closed 113 toll stations, and performed over 10.6 million vehicle checks and 14.75 million passenger checks.

Meanwhile, efforts have been made to improve training of those working in highway service areas for effective COVID-19 response, increase their health monitoring, such as the requirement to have temperatures taken three times a day, and strengthen the disinfection of key areas and facilities including car parks, toilets, door handles and escalators. To prevent the risk of infection, temporary mobile toilets were also provided for staff working outdoors.

In addition, to improve the efficiency of testing and ensure the supply of basic daily necessities in Suzhou, the Yangcheng Lake service area modified the travel restrictions on March 25. Under the new system, drivers will take the free nucleic acid testing on the site and then use the certificate to enter into Suzhou Industrial Park immediately rather than waiting there for the testing result. This new approach had provided 4,905 testing services by 3:00 pm on March 28.
