East China's economic powerhouse Jiangsu Province saw its annual consumption of renewable energy electricity reach 1,000 billion kWh for the first time, 18.917 billion kWh more than last year or a year-on-year growth of 21.95%, according to the Jiangsu Branch of State Grid on November 26.
Renewable energy power accounted for nearly one-sixth of Jiangsu's total electricity consumption. The province’s installed capacity of renewable energy power generation reached 35.98 million kilowatts by the end of October and actual generation hit 61.7 billion kWh, up 42.74% year on year.
Renewable energy industry is increasingly driving the province’s economic and social development. Data showed rapid growth in the new energy vehicle, photovoltaic and wind power equipment manufacturing sectors compared to 2019.
Long Yu, director of the marketing department of the Jiangsu Branch of State Grid, said the province has constantly promoted the use of new energy across basic necessities of life, such as the energy-saving campaign in the construction sector and green transformation in the transportation industry.
Since 2016, the floor area of green and energy-efficient buildings built in the province reached 860 million square meters and the comprehensive energy consumption per person in public institutions dropped by 36.91%.
To promote the use of renewable energy, Jiangsu has also built the country's first data center for energy generated by 3,214 wind turbines and 537 photovoltaic units of 10 kV and above, able to make highly accurate forecast of wind power, photovoltaic and other new energy generation within 10 hours, 3 days and 10 days.
