Jiangsu’s total retail sales of consumer goods reached 368.5 billion yuan in October, up 6.2% year on year and 2.0 percentage points higher than the growth rate in the same period last year, according to data from the province’s Bureau of Statistics.
Meanwhile, the total retail sales of consumer goods in the first ten months this year stood at 3.54 trillion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 18%.
In October, the consumption of essential livelihood items showed a steady growth, and the two categories - grain and edible oil and daily necessities- reported retail growth of 11.4% and 3.2% respectively.
The sales of upgraded goods were thriving in the coastal province. For example, sales of wearable smart devices, smartphones and sports and entertainment products increased by 91.6%, 53.6% and 22.3% year-on-year respectively, up 28.9, 48.9 and 1.6 percentage points from the previous month.
Data also showed the bigger expansion of goods related to transport, driven by the National Day holiday in the month. Sales in the category of petroleum and products went up 32.8%, and consumption in the field of new energy vehicles rose by 87%, 39.6 percentage points from the previous month.
