The Yangtze River Delta, consisting of Shanghai and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui, has made a new progress in pursuing the integrated development.

Starting on November 23, citizens whose hukou (household registration status) is registered with regions in the delta can register their newborn to the hukou document in a much easier way.

In the past, parents needed to go back to the police station in the place that issued the original hukou in order to add a new member to the document. Thanks to the new measure, such travelling will be unnecessary if the parents live in any of the delta’s four regions. They can contact with the local police station close to their residence to apply for the amendment even their hukou is registered in another place of the delta.

This cross-regional service can be processed by local police after parents provide materials including IDs, hukou records and marriage certificate in addition to the Medical Certificate of Birth that documents a newborn’s information.
