Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, became the first capital city in China to achieve the gigabit network and 5G network coverage goals set by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), according to a press conference on May 18.

The ministry has required that 80% of urban households should enjoy the gigabit optical network and there should be 12 5G base stations for every 10,000 people in a city. Nanjing has realized both goals with 100% coverage rate and 17 stations, respectively.

The “double gigabit" network stands out for high bandwidth, ultra-low latency, and top stability.

In moving towards the goals, the Nanjing branch of China Telecom made an investment of over 6 billion yuan. It has built more than 6,500 5G base stations, with a coverage rate of 95% in urban and rural areas and more than 1.7 million 5G users.
