The Jiangsu Provincial Communications Administration reported the great strides made in last year on the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which falls on May 17 annually.
By the end of last year, the province's fiber-optic cable had reached 3.99 million kilometers, 8.5% higher than the same period in 2019, the longest in the country. Jiangsu also had 616,000 mobile base stations including 389,000 4G stations and 71,000 stations for the 5G network, both China’s second highest.
By the end of March this year, the number of 5G users in the province had reached 12.44 million. The number of broadband Internet users in the province’s rural area totaled 14.16 million, ranking first in the country.
Jiangsu maintained a high growth rate in industrial Internet, data center and Internet of Things. The province had 103 public service platforms for industrial Internet, 102 data centers, and completed 5G-related investment of 12.3 billion yuan, basically achieving full coverage of 5G network in the main urban areas and key central towns.
The province has kicked off 206 projects in the "5G+industrial Internet" campaign and signed 1,143 5G-related projects. Jiangsu will accelerate coverage of 5G network and gigabit optical network, and also strive to build more than 65,000 new 5G base stations this year.
Taking key parks such as Suzhou Industrial Park as the starting point, the administration will make efforts to build exemplary programs of the "5G+industrial Internet" campaign to expand 5G application.
