Over 300 exhibitions and events will be held across Jiangsu Province to mark the International Museum Day that falls on May 18, under the theme of "The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine."
The coastal province has 314 registered museums and memorial halls, among which 70 are ranked at the national level, and this includes 13 at the first class.
The Nanjing Museum will be open from 9am to 9pm on May 18 and highlight the feature of night tours. The museum will also release a set of four books entitled "Nanjing Museum Lectures" and launch a cultural exhibition of imperial potted landscape designs in the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912).
On May 15, the Nanjing Municipal Museum opened an exhibition of over 100 paintings and calligraphy works collected by public museums in the Nanjing-centered city clusters, shedding light on the natural wonders and cultural figures in the Yangtze River basin.
May 18 will also see the joint opening of exhibitions to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China at a number of museums in Suzhou, including the Suzhou Revolutionary Museum, Suzhou Museum, Suzhou Museum of Inscriptions, Suzhou Opera Museum and Suzhou Silk Museum.
In addition, the Changzhou Museum has recently launched a special exhibition of the Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints in the Edo period, showcasing 101 masterpieces by two artists Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige. The exhibition will run until June.
