Young volunteers from Xuzhou City in Jiangsu Province planted over 2,200 trees in Minqin County, Northwest China’s Gansu Province during the May Day holiday.
Known as "sand town", Minqin has suffered sandstorms for decades as it’s located between Badain Jaran and Tengger, two large deserts in China. The county has been combating desertification and restoring the ecosystems.
After a long trip, the team finally arrived at Xinjian Village in the county’s Changning Town. Located in the western most part of Minqin and close to Badain Jaran desert, Xinjian faced serious threats of desertification. Volunteers cooperated closely to plant trees and also donated 3,000 yuan to Saving Minqin Volunteers Association, a local environmental protection organization.
This also marked the 9th time for Xuzhou’s volunteers to plant trees in the county.
