The International Talent Supply-Demand Matchmaking Exchange Conference opened in Jiangning District on March 30, alongside the opening ceremony of Foreigner’s Work Permit Application Station.

This marked the first event organized by the Nanjing Municipal Department of Science and Technology this year to promote attraction of international talent.

At the event, six companies including the British International School, Nanjing and Whale Cloud Technology made presentations.

Waqas Ahmed, a Pakistani graduate student from Southeast University School of Medicine, said he was impressed by the thoughtful services provided by the city during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also became a volunteer to help students at the university, such as delivering meals, picking up couriers and helping to address mental stresses. He hopes to continue his PhD studies and would like to bring his parents to live in Nanjing in the future.

Danaboey Temurbek from Uzbekistan, a student of the Department of International Economics and Trade at Hohai University, also thought of Nanjing an open city. He said his family is engaged in foreign trade and he hopes to find development opportunities in China by studying international trade. The first choice of city to work for him is certainly Nanjing.

Nanjing has increasingly become a popular destination of returned Chinese students who completed high education abroad. The city saw the annual growth of 18% of new overseas returnees, which totaled 4,257 in 2020.

In addition, over the past three years, the number of foreigners who applied for permanent residence in Nanjing has increased by 2.5 times. The city also ranked 7th among the top 10 most attractive Chinese cities in the eyes of foreign talents in 2020, according to a survey released by the Foreign Talent Research Center, the Ministry of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
