Nanjing University of Science and Technology opened its 14th cultural festival named after Chinese violet cress, a signature plant in the university, on March 20.

In answering the national call to pay tribute to medical workers fighting COVID-19 on the frontline, March 20 was declared as a special day for them. Medical workers could make a reservation through the school's official website or WeChat and bring 1-2 family members to the school for the visit.

Li Tao, executive vice head of the Publicity Department of the university’s Party committee, said 443 medical workers visited the school to enjoy the flowers on the opening day and each received a gift from the university. They were also joined by their 388 family members in the trip.

Ren Feilong, a nurse from the Department of Neurosurgery at Gulou Hospital, said the university is well-known for the flowers so he felt grateful for this special arrangement. Ren worked for 48 days to support COVID-19 response in Hubei last year.

The festival will continue until April 26.
