Jiangsu delegation to the 13th National People's Congress held its first plenary meeting on the afternoon of May 21, when Lou Qinjian was elected as head of the delegation and Wu Zhenglong, Wang Changsong, Wang Like, Lan Shaomin and Chen Zhenning as deputy heads.
Lou, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Committee and chairman of the standing committee of Jiangsu People’s Congress, chaired the meeting and delivered a speech. He stressed the need to adhere to Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as the guide and accurately understand the central government's latest decisions on economic and social development this year.
The year 2020 is the year to finish building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. It is also the final year for achieving the goals in the 13th Five-Year Plan and wining three tough battles- preventing and defusing financial risks, targeted poverty alleviation, and pollution control.
Jiangsu will unify the thoughts and actions in line with the analysis and judgment of the CPC Central Committee on the situation, make efforts to coordinate the COVID-19 response and economic and social development, emphasize the unity of Party leadership, running of the country by the people, and law-based governance, and fulfill the responsibilities during the annual session with a strong sense of historical mission and extraordinary political vision.
The province will also make efforts to ensure stable performance in six key areas, namely, stability in employment, finance, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment and market expectations, and strive to win the two-front battle - combating the outbreak and bolstering economic and social development.
The meeting also deliberated a draft agenda of the NPC annual session and a draft name list of the session's presidium and secretary-general, and passed the name list of deputy groups and convenor of each group.
