Lianyungang International Shipping Service Centre became home to China’s first joint inspection center by maritime and customs authorities amid efforts to boost foreign trade on May 18.
It is the first such project for innovative port supervision since the China (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade Zone was launched last August, with Lianyungang as one of three areas.
Maritime and customs authorities have vowed to have comprehensive cooperation in the cross-border transportation, check of dangerous goods, and faster customs clearance. The two parties will work closely to apply information technologies, improve inspection to be precise, and effectively coordinate in emergency response on the sea.
Such new working mechanism is expected to cut the customs clearance time for a container carrying dangerous items by eight hours, saving the economic cost of 400 yuan.
