Customs in Lianyungang, a coastal city in Jiangsu Province, introduced 20 measures to support the development of the Lianyungang Area of the China (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade Zone (JSFTZ) on March 13.

The JSFTZ is one of six such pilot zones designated by the State Council in August 2019 in a strategic move to press ahead with reform and opening up in the new era. The JSFTZ consists of three areas: the Nanjing Area, the Suzhou Area and the Lianyungang Area.

The new measures will support the development of a platform for containers distribution and the Lianyungang Area’s application for approval to function as a railway port, an import port of assembled vehicles, a port for importing drugs, sold within China for the first time, and biological products, an international mail exchange and a supervision center for international express consignments. The development of a supervision and public service platform for bio-pharmaceutical sector will also gain support from the customs.

Customs will support the development goal as a key hub of the Belt and Road initiative and enhance operation of the China-Kazakhstan logistics base. On the basis of roundtable meetings among member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, efforts will be made to explore the regional cooperation mechanism among customs authorities and improve the opening up. Customs will also facilitate the export through the Less-than-Container-Load (LCL) shipping service by the China-Europe freight train, support the opening of transport hub or container center at venues that meet requirements, and give full play to the role of comprehensive bonded zone.
