Forty-five overseas Chinese attended the 3rd session of the 12th CPPCC Jiangsu Committee, the province’s top political advisory body, showing a strong interest in the development of China and the province and expressing their willingness to make more contribution in the future.
Shi Yu, the director of foreign affairs office of the CPPCC Jiangsu Committee, said in the past the committee invited overseas Chinese from 13 countries, such as the United States, Australia, Britain and Canada. This year, the committee invited 15 more people from 15 Latin American and African countries along the Belt and Road initiative. These representatives are mainly influential business leaders who have invested in Jiangsu, do business with the province, or have investment plans, according to Shi.
Park Wei Zuliang, president of Jiangsu Association of Australia, has attended the annual session of CPPCC Jiangsu Committee for several times.
“We have been promoting the economic and cultural exchanges between Jiangsu and Australia. Nanjing is now home to many outstanding high-tech projects from Australia. We have also introduced some top talents to start a business in Jiangsu and play their roles. We have a close relationship with Jiangsu. As an overseas Chinese with my ancestral roots in Jiangsu, we pay close attention to China’s development, get ready to promote exchanges between the two countries, and make our contribution to the development in Jiangsu and China,” said Wei.
In his first participation of the session, Ma Wenjun, chairman of the China-Europe Culture, Arts and Sports Association, said the Belt and Road initiative is not only a going-global strategy but also to introduce funds and technology from Europe to China.
Ma revealed, among his efforts to realize this goal, cooperation was reached with Pukou and Jiangning districts as well as Suzhou area of the China (Jiangsu) Pilot Free Trade Zone to launch several projects, including one project involving a total investment of about 2 billion yuan.
