The consumer spending in Jiangsu Province during the Chinese New Year holiday surged by 8.5% year on year to 13.75 billion yuan, according to the latest statistics from the province’s Department of Commerce.

During the holiday from January 31 to February 6, the province saw the hosting of more than 600 events to promote consumption, while key e-commerce platforms and retailers also doubled their efforts both online and on-site.

To celebrate the Winter Olympics, many festive programs also featured the fusion of commerce, ice and snow elements, and the use of new technologies.

In Nanjing, more than 60,000 residents participated a program centering on the Olympic Games celebration by February 4. Golden Eagle Lakeside City is the first commercial complex in Nanjing to launch an outdoor ice and snow festival, which included sea lion shows, polar bear parades, and great deals by retail brands related to skiing and skating.

Skiing resorts and theme parks in Xuzhou City received many visitors during the holiday, giving a boost to restaurants and hotels around these venues.
