Total import and export value of Jiangsu, one of the country's major foreign trade hubs, hit over 1.66 trillion yuan in the January-April period, up 7.1% year on year, according to data by Nanjing Customs.
Exports in the economic powerhouse soared to over 1.02 trillion yuan, a 6.8% increase from the same period last year, while imports reached more than 636 billion yuan, up 7.6% year on year. Jiangsu’s foreign trade accounted for 13.2% of the national total in the four months.
The general trade, processing trade, and bonded warehouse trade in the period hit 931.7 billion yuan, 533.1 billion yuan and 177.2 billion yuan, an increase of 7.8%, 6.6% and 6.4% year on year respectively.
In the first four months this year, Jiangsu’s trade with the European Union, ASEAN, the United States, South Korea reached 248.13 billion yuan, 241.25 billion yuan, 212.81 billion yuan, 189.7 billion yuan respectively, an increase of 5.4%, 8.3%, 2.6%, 18%.
The province’s trade volume with the Belt and Road countries totaled 431.38 billion yuan, an increase of 9.7%, 2.6 percentage points higher than the overall growth rate.
Private enterprises contributed to foreign trade of 615.65 billion yuan, an increase of 10.4%, accounting for 37.1% of the total, 1.1 percentage points higher than the same period last year.
In addition, trade volume by foreign-invested enterprises climbed up 3.8% to 884.91 billion yuan, or 53.4% of the total. State-owned enterprises also reported foreign trade of 157.51 billion yuan, an increase of 14.6%.
