Jiangsu’s medical team sent to support COVID-19 response in Shanghai returned on May 26 after completing missions in mobile cabin hospitals successfully.
Among provincial-level regions, Jiangsu made three records in the fight as it’s the first province to send a medical team on March 31, with largest number of 2,147 medical professionals involved and 26,245 patients in Shanghai treated, also the largest number.
The team included 361 doctors and 1,670 nurses, among which 1,147 people had previous anti-epidemic experiences. They came from five provincial hospitals as well as 173 medical institutions in Wuxi, Suzhou, Nantong and Zhenjiang cities.
Lu Xiang, Party chief of Sir Run Run Hospital, Nanjing Medical University, led a 10-member team to reach Shanghai on March 31, kicking off Jiangsu’s support to the metropolis. Jiangsu’s team later took charge of eight zones with 7,308 beds at the makeshift hospital in Shanghai’s Lingang, providing service to 26,245 patients in 47 days. Some 1,170 medics in four teams were also re-organized to support hospitals designated to treat COVID-19 cases since May 8. During their stay in Shanghai, 18 nurses from Jiangsu performed haemodialysis for 3,292 people.
