A total of 350 million passenger trips were made in East China’s Jiangsu Province during the first half of the year, down 8.1% year on year, and the passenger kilometers, a unit of measurement meaning the number of passengers multiplied by the distance traveled, reached 62.2 billion, up 35.5% year on year.
The number of train trips saw the biggest rise, 92.6% year on year, to reach 100 million during the period, while there was 36.32 billion passenger kilometers made, also a whopping growth of 82.1%. The two indicators now recovered to 94% and 87.6% of the pre-pandemic level.

Passengers travelling by roads also maintained a stable growth. More than 33.6 million road trips were recorded with 4.33 billion passenger kilometers, up 27.8% and 12.1% respectively. The two indicators still fell far behind the level in 2019.
Civil aviation sector operated about 23.86 million passenger trips during the period, registering a year-on-year growth of 76.4%, or 85% of the capacity in 2019. This included 23.73 million domestic passenger trips, an increase of 83.8%. The latest developments included the opening of the Nantong-Macao flight on June 23 and a new route linking Chengdu City in Sichuan Province with Yangzhou Taizhou International Airport on June 27.
