The gross domestic product of Jiangsu’s marine economy reached approximately 721 billion yuan in the first three quarters of the year, which marked a 6.3% increase year-on-year and represented 7.7% of the total GDP for the same period, according to the province’s Department of Natural Resources on November 8.

Key marine industries such as transportation, shipbuilding and tourism have shown continued recovery over the first nine months.

With a coastline of 954 kilometers, Jiangsu boasts exceptional marine resources, and notably, its coastal mudflats account for about 25% of China’s total.

The province has implemented a series of measures to stimulate the marine economy. For example, to foster innovation-driven growth, it encourages universities to set up marine technology commercialization centers, and facilitates collaboration by supporting technology research and application hubs and enhancing the synergy between technology and manufacturing sector.

Committed to sustainable development, Jiangsu has advanced the digital and green transformation of the marine industry, piloted the construction of net zero industrial parks, and developed smart marine farms and smart ports while ensuring a balance between the industry growth and environmental protection.
