A project in Suzhou became one of China’s first 18 pilot projects of intelligent transportation recently released by the Ministry of Transport.
Suzhou is also the only city in Jiangsu to win the honor in the fields of autonomous driving and intelligent shipping.
Suzhou ranked first in Jiangsu in terms of the comprehensive strength of its companies engaged in the Internet of Vehicle (IoV) industry and the evergrowing scale of infrastructure for the sector. The city, also one of IoV frontrunners in China, has huge potential for industrial development as it’s in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta and can also effectively drive the development of industrial clusters in the surrounding areas.
In the past two years, Suzhou invested more than 200 million yuan into the IoV industry and won honors such as Jiangsu’s first IoV pilot zone and first digital transport pilot zone. Suzhou has built two roads for auto testing, one for 8.8 km long in the Suzhou Industrial Park and one for 8.4 km in its Xiangcheng District.
In addition, about 35% of Suzhou's IoV enterprises have set up R&D centers. More than 7,000 high-level professionals with master's degrees or above are working in the booming sector. There are also a number of industry-university-research cooperation platforms such as an intelligent driving industry alliance formed under the G60 Science and Innovation Corridor framework in the delta region.
As Suzhou will host the ITS World Congress 2023, the city has actively supported the research and application of intelligent transport technologies, such as in areas close the event venue and Taihu Lake Ecological Island.
