Construction of Haimen-Taicang tunnel, a new world-class tunnel under the Yangtze River started in Jiangsu Province on September 7.
As part of the Haimen-Taicang Expressway, the underwater tunnel will extend for 11.2 kilometers long, the longest of its kind in the world, and get built via a way that integrates excavation by giant tunnel boring machine and use of prefabricated modular parts.
After completion, the project will enhance the layout of cross-river channels in the coastal province, promote coordinated development among regions, and advance the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta integration and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, both key development strategies.
Construction of four bridges and four tunnels are currently underway across the Jiangsu section of China's longest waterway.
