Foreign trade in the coastal province reached the threshold of 5 trillion yuan in 2021. The growth momentum has continued in the past two months while private enterprises played a more prominent role. Jiangsu's imports and exports to major trading partners all reported a stable growth. Trade with countries along the Belt and Road initiative totaled 219.27 billion yuan in the period, an increase of 18.2%.
Professor Zhang Erzhen of the Yangtze River Delta Economic and Social Development Research Center of Nanjing University said the data reflects the resilience of Jiangsu's real economy, the stable supply chain, and enhanced competitiveness.
To mitigate the impacts of the pandemic, Jiangsu rolled out 40 measures to support enterprises to develop the international and domestic markets and reduce the operating costs. The provincial government has also introduced new policy to speed up the development of cross-border e-commerce, market procurement trade and new forms and models of foreign trade.
Zhang Xiaoen, a department chief of Nanjing Customs, said efforts will be made to take advantage of the RCEP agreement, implement policies and measures to assist market players faced with difficulties, streamline the customs clearance procedure, and enhance the level of cross-border trade facilitation.
