Construction of China's largest carbon capture project has started at the Taizhou Power Plant, part of the Jiangsu branch of China Energy.

The 3-year project with a total planned investment of 455 million yuan will capture 130,000 tons of carbon each year in Phase I and then improve the capacity to 500,000 tons in Phase II.

The project is launched as China is striving to meet a grand goal: to peak its carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.

Carbon dioxide capture is a major method to decrease the emissions from large industrial plants, but it faces difficulties of high cost and low utilization rate.

This project will capture carbon dioxide for production fields in Taixing Economic and Development Zone. It will help bring a sustainable industrial chain for new materials.
