East China’s Jiangsu Province held the first Environmental Policy Open Day event specially for foreign-invested enterprises this year in Zhenjiang City as the province tries to engage more companies in its transformation to the high-quality, sustainable development model.

Representatives of three foreign-funded enterprises asked many questions of their concerns in the face-to-face meeting, such as environmental measures and pollution control technology. Officials from both the provincial and city authorities gave detailed answers and also explained relevant policies.

Over the past two years, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment has held 21 such policy update events, including two sessions exclusively for foreign-funded enterprises. It provided services to 9,000 visitors and addressed 6,620 environmental problems, said Yin Rongrao, an environmental inspector of the department.

Yin also said the province has made great strides in environmental protection, with the PM2.5 concentration falling below 40 μg/m3 for the first time, success in comprehensive treatment of Grade V water bodies, and people's higher satisfaction.

However, Jiangsu's massive economy, dense population and intensive development also means the province still faces daunting challenges in the ecological civilization construction and greater efforts are needed to continue the fight against pollution, according to Yin.
