The Nanjing branch of Fubon Bank (China) unveiled a new service at Nanjing Lukou International Airport on September 11 to facilitate the mobile payment access for Taiwan compatriots arriving on the mainland.

Taiwan compatriots have two options for accessing mobile payment apps like Alipay and WeChat Pay: they can link their credit cards to the app or apply for mainland debit or credit card and then connect it to the app, as stated in a press conference by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council earlier this year.

Mainland banks have created short videos and brochures to promote the policy. Fubon Bank (China), a fully-owned subsidiary of Taipei-based Fubon Financial, has further streamlined the registration process.

Taiwan compatriots can first follow the bank's WeChat public account and then use their mainland travel permit and phone number on the island to make a reservation. Upon online approval, the bank staff will assist them in activating the mobile payment service right at the airport exit.

Ding Chen, director of the airport’s Terminal Management Department, said the terminal has supported the bank to situate the service closer to the arrival area, enabling quicker access for Taiwan compatriots.
