The International Communication Forum on Chinese Literature, along with the 6th International Sinologists Conference on Translating Chinese Literature, commenced in Nanjing City on September 5.

The events were co-hosted by the Chinese Writers Association and the Nanjing Municipal People's Government.

The forum welcomed 32 sinologists from 24 countries and more than 40 renowned domestic writers and international communication experts.

Nanjing is the only Chinese city recognized in the UNESCO Creative Cities of Literature initiative. The historic and cultural city has played a pivotal role in literary exchange between China and other countries.

In the 16th century, Nanjing spearheaded the translation of the Four Books and Five Classics, central texts of Confucianism, for European readers. To date, the city has translated over 60 foreign literary works into Chinese. It’s home to thousands of literary societies and associations, with nearly 1,000 works being translated and published annually.

Established in 2010, the International Sinologists Conference on Translating Chinese Literature takes place biennially.
