Wu Jiying, a Nanjing Massacre survivor, passed away on May 25 at the age of 98, according to the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders.
Wu, born on June 15, 1924, was stabbed by a Japanese soldier in her left leg during the Nanjing Massacre. She later survived in a refugee camp in the city. Wu suffered from severe memory loss in her later years but she remembered her fleeing from the violence.
Her death reduced the total number of registered survivors to 56. Five survivors - Zhu Zaiqiang, Pu Yeliang, Wang Suming, Wang Heng and Wu Jiying- have passed away this year.
