New commission dedicated to Jiangsu-France cooperation and exchange

The Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government and the Consulate General of France in Shanghai jointly held the first Jiangsu-France cooperation and exchange meeting in Nanjing on December 20.

Participants included representatives from the governmental departments, institutes and enterprises of Jiangsu and France. The event also saw the establishment of the Jiangsu-France Cooperation and Exchange Joint Commission to elevate the regular communication.

Yang Jing, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office, said that France is the first Western country to establish a comprehensive partnership and then comprehensive strategic partnership with China and also enter into a strategic dialogue with China. Under the framework of the new commission, both sides will further enhance the cooperation quality among sister-cities, strengthen the foundation for economic and trade cooperation, enhance partnership in science and technology innovation, and expand people-to-people exchanges, contributing to the building of a more solid, stable and vibrant China-France comprehensive strategic partnership.

Benoît Guidée, Consul General of France in Shanghai, said he was very pleased to work with the Foreign Affairs Office to set up a working mechanism for exchange and cooperation, which is the first of its kind in China’s provinces and marks a milestone of great importance. As a major economic and cultural power, Jiangsu plays a pivotal role in China-France relations. The province’s high-quality economic development and the increasing integration of the Yangtze River Delta will provide valuable opportunities to further expand cooperation between the two sides. The Consulate General of France in Shanghai will work together with all sides to make the commission a role model of local cooperation between France and China.

The event also included roundtable discussions on trade, investment, science and technology innovation, local exchanges and other topics, promotion of Huai’an and Taixing cities, and investment projects presentation by BNP Paribas and Vision Energy Group.
