East China’s Jiangsu Province added 77,400 public parking spaces this year by the end of July, closer to its yearly goal of 100,000 parking spaces.
The latest progress included the opening of a new car park at Wenchang Street in Luhe District, Nanjing City this month. The car park was built after demolition of an old apartment building and has 115 parking spaces in an area of 3742.2 square meters. Decorated with many plants, it also has a greening rate of 30%.
Chu Guojing, deputy head of the district’s Urban Administrative and Law Enforcement Unit, said the demand for parking spaces is high at Wenchang Street, which is surrounded by old residential compounds and close to the busy Wangjiatian Farmers’ Market.
The district has built five new car parks with 687 parking spaces by renovating scattered plots and unused land since last year.
In many old urban areas, it’s very difficult to find a parking space and the management of car parks can be challenging too. As a result, the province launched a campaign to address this concern in 2017, adding 581,000 parking spaces in three years.
