Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu People's Congress, and Wu Zhenglong, deputy Party chief and governor of the province met with a delegation led by Hou Jianguo, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and secretary of the CAS Leading Party Members’ Group.
Lou said, under the guide of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Jiangsu won victories in three hard battles last year – the COVID-19 response, the economic reopening, and the flood and drought control. In this year, Jiangsu has kept the steady and faster economic growth.
In recognizing the academy’s outstanding contribution to China’s economic and social development, Lou also said CAS plays an important role in the country’s innovation-driven growth and efforts to achieve technical self-reliance. To align with the national development strategies, Jiangsu is willing to deepen cooperation with CAS in key areas, such as the construction of national major S&T infrastructure, fundamental research, and technical breakthroughs so as to help the county develop into a S&T power.
Hou said that CAS and Jiangsu have a good basis for cooperation and it’s necessary to give full play to the advantages of both sides. Efforts should be made to deepen comprehensive cooperation, launch more innovative projects, bring forth more research results, and help Jiangsu become a regional powerhouse of science and technology.
