Winning the recognition needs to meet a series of requirements, such as greening coverage rate of not less than 40%, per capita park space of not less than 14 square meters, a 10-minutue walking distance to green space from any place in 90% of area and landscaping in at last 90% of public facilities.
The three places have all made strides in efforts to improve the living environment, form the unique characteristics, and promote green development.
An official of the provincial department said Jiangsu is the first province in the country to carry out the eco-garden city initiative, now with 27 garden cities/counties and 13 eco-garden cities all at the provincial level. Among them, nine are also eco-garden cities at the national level, the highest number in the country, accounting for about 47% of the total.
