Suzhou unveiled the city’s first book house for foreign experts in Suzhou International Technology Talent Park on the afternoon of August 11.
With an area of 300 square meters, the center is now home to 3,000 books in more than ten languages including Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean and Russian, covering areas of politics, economy, culture and diplomacy.
Suzhou now has 11,525 foreign experts holding a working permit, the fifth highest in Chinese cities after Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Gu Wanyong, deputy director of Suzhou Department of Science and Technology, said that the center is not only a place to read books but also a window to understand China and Chinese culture.
The city will open its second Foreign Expert Book House in Xi’an Jiangtong- Liverpool University and more such space in workplaces, apartment buildings and venues where foreign experts gather.
The country’s first book house specially for foreign experts opened in Hefei, Anhui Province in 2018. Since then, 20 such facilities have been established in 13 cities and districts, offering services to tens of thousands of foreign experts in the country. It has been warmly welcomed by foreign experts working in China.
