Legislators gather for new session of Jiangsu People’s Congress

Legislators from all walks of life arrived in Nanjing on January 14 for the third session of the 13th Jiangsu People’s Congress, the province’s legislature.

Shi Zhengrong, vice president of Suqian College and a deputy of the congress, said the bullet train dream comes true now in Suqian and will facilitate the attraction of investment and talents. He also believes greater development room in Suqian as well as areas in northern Jiangsu amid the improved railway network.

Peng Yuzhu, the Party chief of Nanjing Gulou Hospital and also a deputy, proposed to establish a health records platform for regional population in every stage of life. The data about resident’s health needs to be connected and shared among all hospitals.

Environmental protection, especially air pollution, is the top concern for Liu Ming, a deputy and a Wuxi-based commissioner of Jiangsu Department of Ecology and Environment. Multiple measures are needed to address the increase in ozone levels in summer and control the emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC).

Cui Weixiang, a health care assistant in an elderly home in Liangduo Town, Dongtai City, has called for more efforts to help the aged and disabled in rural areas. She said it’s necessary to establish more institutions to care for those with severe disabilities.
