Jiangsu’s 23 long-established enterprises are participating in the sixth China International Import Expo that commenced in Shanghai on November 5, showcasing their traditional craftsmanship and techniques inherited through generations.

At an interaction zone, visitors can utilize AI technology to design and customize jianpu, traditional decorated letter-paper. Zhao Shiheng, a craftsman born in the 1990s, explained that historically the letter-paper featured elegant patterns such as landscapes, birds, flowers and antiquities and drew inspiration from the Analects of Confucius and the Classic of Poetry, reflecting distinctive Chinese aesthetics.

Suzhou Zigang Jewelry Co Ltd, which dates back to 1539, is showcasing its signature diamond “Eleventh Roses” at the CIIE for the second time. The company’s head Guo Zhonghua mentioned that the creative odd-numbered diamond has been certified by Guinness World Records for having the most facets.

Nanjing Yunjin brocade, famous for its exquisite craftmanship, elegant patterns and smooth texture, was inscribed in 2009 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

At the CIIE, Nanjing Yunjin Brocade Research Institute is exhibiting a replica of a jifu, a garment won by queens for festive occasions in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The reproduction included three years of research, six design revisions and 12 dyeing trials, according to the institute’s brand manager He Guanyi.

He also noted that digital mapping software and other technologies have improved production efficiency by 50-100%, enabling the production of Yunjin pieces in small batches.

Suzhou Xiuniang Silk Co Ltd sets an example of preserving and innovating traditional silk embroidery techniques to suit modern lifestyles. The company highlights its Suzhou-style cheongsam and a variety of accessories, such as pins and pendants with designs including flowers and butterflies.

Jiangsu’s geographical conditions have fostered various tea production techniques.

Li Liangji Health Industry Co Ltd, stemming from the esteemed TCM brand established in 1914 in Suzhou, is presenting six types of tea at the CIIE, one of which incorporates health-promoting herbs.

The fair also showcases local delicacies such as duck blood vermicelli soup from Guanshengyuan, pastries from Taoyuancun, tea-time snacks from Renchangshun, and hawthorn cake from Chuwang Food.
