Many museums in Jiangsu will host unique exhibitions and a variety of activities to celebrate International Museum Day on May 18.
Suqian City Museum has launched the "Zheng He Era" exhibition with more than 120 relics excavated from the Treasure Ship Factory Ruins in Nanjing, such as shipbuilding tools, porcelain, gold, silver, jade, and tomb records. The exhibition offers insights into the lifestyle, international exchange and trade during the early, while also paying tribute to the courageous spirit of the renowned maritime explorer. The Nanjing Museum will present an exhibition dedicated to William Morris and the British arts and crafts movement. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore cultural relics from minority ethnic groups residing in Southwest China at the museum.
As a part of Suzhou Museum, the site of the Residence of Li Xiucheng will be unveiled with a renewed appearance on May 18, following six months of restoration and preparation. The site features a main hall as the focal point, along with the east and west corridors. The exhibition will center on the life of Li, a military commander known as the “Loyal King” in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom movement. The Memorial Hall of Jiangnan Command Post of the New fourth Army will organize activities to introduce cultural heritage from revolutionary times and the Party’s history. It will also host crafts workshops and exchange sessions.
In Lianyungang City, the museum provided free assessments of collectables on May 17, aiming to help the public understand the art of collecting and also contribute to the sustainable development of cultural relics. Additionally, starting from May 18, Lianyungang will release 20 short videos showcasing the city’s accomplishments in heritage protection.
