Nearly 1,000 audiences were thrilled when dance drama A Dream of Red Mansions was staged at Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts from October 28 to 30, a centerpiece of Zijin Culture and Art Festival.

Featuring Chinese folk dance, the original creation by Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts was based on the treasured classic, and has integrated elements of literature, music and performance.

The show's stage setting also featured traditional handicraft of velvet flowers, an intangible cultural heritage recognized at the provincial level.

Since its premiere in September 2021, the dance drama has been performed 18 times in the country. After the performance in Nanjing, it will then also tour in Xi'an, Chengdu, Suzhou, Shanghai and other cities.
