The Jiangsu Provincial Health Commission and the Yangzhou Municipal Government convened a meeting on November 11 to welcome the return of 25 members in China’s 33rd group of medical teams to Zanzibar and 19th batch assigned to Malta.
In September of last year, Yangzhou’s medical professionals independently formed the medical aid team to Zanzibar and joined those from Wuxi City to form the team to Malta.
The team members have completed a one-year service abroad. During the mission, the Zanzibar team provided outpatient and emergency care to 47,000 patients, treated 16,000 inpatients, conducted 5,010 surgeries, and introduced 90 new medical techniques. The Malta team provided care to over 7,000 outpatients and emergency cases, introduced 26 Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques, and successfully trained local doctors to independently perform related surgeries for the first time. The members from Yangzhou showcased their commitment to care, professionalism and dedication.
Jiang Guoqing, leader of the team to Zanzibar, said the mission greatly benefited the local community, such as through organizing 20 large-scale free clinics and training local doctors.
