The Nanjing Vocational Institute of Railway Technology has worked closely with AVIC International Holding Corporation (AVIC INTL), a principal contractor in the 10th of Ramadan Railway in Egypt, to cultivate railway operation and maintenance professionals for the African country.
Under the Belt and Road Initiative framework, the school has actively strengthened international exchange and cooperation. Due to the epidemic, the school provided online and onsite studies from September to December.
At a meeting room in Badr in Egypt, participants of the course included both employees who already completed studies at the institute and new students who will study in the railway school. The school’s teachers Yi Peng and Xu Hong provided trainings on different topics combined with the study of Chinese language. The two teachers were selected and sent to work in Egypt in August in order to improve the teaching and training results.
As Chinese railway companies go global, the demand for international talents is also rising. Since 2018, the institute and AVIC INTL have jointly held the Egyptian Order Class that trained nearly 100 students in the form of dual education/apprenticeship system.
Egypt's first electrified light rail transit (LRT) system jointly built by Chinese and Egyptian companies started its trial run in July. Mohamed Nosir, who was behind the wheel in the trial run, was a former student of the institute. He also won praises from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang.
In the future, the institute will further explore the online-onsite training courses that combine the study of Chinese language and vocational skills and support domestic companies to go global.
