More gardens in Jiangsu free to public

Jiangsu's six classical gardens will allow free entry to the public in a pilot program ofthe province's Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, according to a press conference on December 15.

This represents a new progress after urban comprehensive parks and community-level parks in the province have waived admission fees.

The number of visitors to the Mochou Lake Park in Nanjing increased 33% year on year since the free entry policy became effective on January 1, and the park also saw a growth of about 20% for visitors under 60 years old.

Suzhou have opened 89 classical gardens to the public free of charge by appointment only or at fixed time slots. The city will gradually open 19 state-owned parks by the end of 2023. The venues will feature traditional customs and bring to life classic literature through a combination of gardens and Kunqu Opera.
