Wu Zhenglong, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, visited the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) and the Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NJUPT) on June 14 to learn about efforts of sci-tech innovation and employment of college graduates.
Noting that S&T development is the primary productive force, talent is the critical resource and innovation is a crucial driving force, Wu called for efforts to vigorously promote the high-quality development of higher education, and make new achievements in sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening.
The NJUPT’s State Key Laboratory of Organic Electronics and Information Display mainly carries out basic theoretical and application research in the field of the next-generation information technology. Wu learned about the research direction, scientific issues, innovation progress, and cooperation with enterprises.
Wu said it’s important to concentrate on the future S&T and industrial development, give full play to the inter-disciplinary research, and make greater efforts to achieve breakthroughs in key and core technologies. Jiangsu should seize the opportunity of the digital economy, accelerate deeper integration of industry, academia, research and application, build industry clusters in information technology and communications, integrated circuits and new displays, and inject strong momentum for high-quality development.

At the NUAA's State Key Laboratory of Mechanics and Control of Mechanical Structure, Wu asked about the commercialization of research results and encouraged researchers to be committed to innovation and making new contribution to the province’s development.
During the visits, Wu also tried to get a full understanding of employment of college graduates. Wu said efforts are needed to create new jobs, enhance trainings, improve services, and help graduates have a correct concept of career options. Priority should be given to help graduates with disabilities and those from families that have low-income, zero-employment, or just shook off poverty.
Wu also called for efforts to continue the COVID-19 response measures and ensure the laboratory safety.
He recognized the important roles of the two universities in advancing Jiangsu’s development. He said the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and provincial government will continue to provide full support to the NUAA and the NJUPT, which celebrate the 70th and 80th anniversary of founding this year respectively.
Wu urged the two universities to forge ahead on new journey toward world-class schools and make greater contribution to the people.
