Jiangsu's foreign trade up 8.5% in January-May

Jiangsu’s imports and exports in the first five months of this year reached 2.13 trillion yuan, up 8.5% year on year, accounting for 13.3% of the country’s total in the period, according to Nanjing Customs.

In breakdown, exports hit 1.32 trillion yuan, a year-on-year expansion of 9%, and imports climbed up 7.6% to 807.03 billion yuan.

In the five months, Jiangsu's foreign trade with the European Union, ASEAN, the United States and South Korea was 318.33 billion yuan, 311.64 billion yuan, 275.35 billion yuan and 242.02 billion yuan, up 7.4%, 9.6%, 5.2% and 19.6%, respectively. Jiangsu’s trade volume with countries along the Belt and Road Initiative increased by 11.2%, and with 14 RCEP countries up by 8.8%.

Private enterprises reported foreign trade of 808.54 billion yuan, an increase of 13.1%. Trade volume by state-owned enterprises jumped by 18.6% year on year to 204.23 billion yuan. The foreign trade of Jiangsu's foreign-funded enterprises expanded by 3.8% to 1.12 trillion yuan, accounting for 52.4% of the province's total.

Jiangsu’s exports of electromechanical products increased by 7.3% to 867.76 billion yuan, accounting for 65.7% of the total exports. The exports of integrated circuits, solar cells and mobile phones hit 108.39 billion yuan, 41.52 billion yuan, 38.7 billion yuan, up 23.7%, 80.3% and 116.5%, respectively.

During the same period, exports of labor-intensive products amounted to 195.75 billion yuan, an increase of 5.7%. This included exports of textiles and garments worth 130.75 billion yuan, up 10.2%.
