Yu Changxiang, a Nanjing Massacre survivor, passed away on June 7 at the age of 95, according to the Memorial Hall of the Victims of Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders. His death also reduced the total number of registered survivors to 55.

Born in 1927, Yu and his family took refuge in a pipeline when Japanese soldiers invaded Nanjing. Yu’s father was killed in the massacre.

In an early interview, Yu said he didn’t want to mention what happened in the massacre as they just made him feel so painful. But after visiting the memorial hall in 2012, Yu said he began to talk about his memories to the public. At 86, he also visited Japan and attended other gatherings to pay tribute to the victims.
