Jiangsu’s tourism revenue surpasses 31 billion yuan in May Day holiday

Jiangsu Province saw more than 39.88 million passenger trips made during the May Day holiday, a year-on-year growth of 277.7% and 25.2% higher than the 2019 level, according to the province’s Department of Culture and Tourism on May 3. 


The province’s tourism revenue soared to 31.008 billion yuan, an increase of 220.8% and 15.3% compared to last year and 2019, respectively.   

Jiangsu’s 631 A-level scenic spots and 561 rural tourism destinations received over 25.43 million visits and had a total tourism revenue of 12.379 billion yuan, an increase of 307.37% and 270.76% over the same holiday last year respectively, and up 39.85% and 38.04% respectively when compared to the 2019 level. 

Jiangsu’s 45 night-time visit venues recognized at the provincial level registered more than 3.69 million trips during four nights of the holiday, marking a year-on-year growth of 322.92%. 

The A-level scenic spots and rural destinations received more than 9.378 million tourists from outside the province, accounting for 36.87% of the total during the holiday. Most of these inbound tourists came from Shanghai, Anhui, Shandong, Zhejiang, Henan and other places. 

In addition, the province’s Department of Commerce revealed that the total retail sales of consumer goods from April 29 to May 3 reached 6.45 billion yuan, a 41.8% year-on-year increase. The average daily sales increased by 12.9% over the same holiday in 2019.
