Yancheng City in East China’s Jiangsu Province started its annual culture and tourism festival on the morning of September 17, with a media tour added this year to highlight its attraction as home to a UNESCO world heritage.
With the opening ceremony held at the Jiulongkou national wetland park, the city officially kicked off many events to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. People can visit the Dafeng Milu National Nature Reserve to get a close look at Milu deer, also known as Pere David's deer, enjoy the highly sought-after freshwater crabs inhabiting Dazong Lake, or appreciate the blooming lotus flowers at Jinsha Lake. Many of the city’s scenic spots including Dayangwan, Tianxianyuan and Yellow Sea Forest Park will organize interesting events such as folk operas, food festival and music shows.
In the media tour, editor-in-chief of the country’s many media outlets that stand out for multi-platform operations were expected to help promote Yancheng’s reputation as home to the world heritage.
In 2019, China's Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the coast of the Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf (Phase I) were inscribed on the World Heritage List as a natural site at the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee. It is the central node of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF), which is the most threatened migratory flyway worldwide and boasts the largest number of endangered and critically endangered species. The two component parts of the property are both located on the coast of the Yellow Sea in Jiangsu. Jointly, the Migratory Bird Habitat in the South of Yancheng and the Migratory Bird Habitat in the North of Yancheng have a total area of 188,643 ha, along with two separate buffer zones totaling some 80,056 ha.
